| NOTE: We have just given a brief description of these massages, but they are not all-inclusive. Consult your spa-therapist to know the detailed description, before getting a massage done. | Acupressure refers to a system of bodywork which uses pressure on specific points to balance an individual's energy and bring about physical improvements. Acupressure may be used in conjunction with an oil massage or exclusively as in Shiatsu, Jin Shin Do, and Reflexology. Ayurvedic Massage The best known form of traditional Indian medicine is Ayurveda (from ayus, meaning 'life' and veda, meaning 'knowledge'). Chair - On-site Massage is a convenient and easily implemented method of massage. It is received facing downwards on a specially designed chair. It is a through the clothes, oil-free massage which takes 15 - 30 minutes. It relieves muscular tension in the head, neck, shoulders, back, arms and hands. Clients report feeling great relaxation and lighter shoulders as well as improved energy levels. Craniosacral Therapy is one of the more gentle yet powerful therapies. A hands-on technique done with or without clothing, this modality uses gentle, fluid movements of the bones and tissues of the head, thorax, and hips, to enhance the flow of cerbrospinal fluid. This corrects imbalances in the central nervous system between the cranium and the sacrum, resetting the body’s natural healing potential. The benefits of treatment include improvement of nerve system function, reduction of stress, deep muscular relaxation, support of the immune system, and overall enhancement of body health. A greater sense of calmness, clarity, and connectedness is experienced after a Craniosacral session. Deep Tissue Massage works through muscle tension layer by layer, reaching the deeper muscles where chronic pain and tension may be released. Deep work is often slower than regular bodywork, allowing the soft tissues to open at deeper levels. Since deep work requires more time to release the tension in specialized areas, your massage will not always treat all areas of your body in one session. Hawaiian Lomilomi: This is a native Hawaiian healing tradition. It uses rhythmic strokes, joint movement and deep kneading to loosen the body and soothe the soul. Hot Stone Massage: It uses smooth and heated stones. Usually basalt stone ( a black volcanic rock) is used in this kind of massage. Jin Shin Do uses moderate pressure on acupuncture points to channel energy. Rather than use rhythmic pressure, as in Shiatsu, the Jin Shin Do practitioner simply holds the points, sensing the energy pulsation and allowing the release of tension. Jin Shin Do emphasizes the "Middle Way", the balance between too much and too little. The client is fully clothed to receive Jin Shin Do. Lymphatic compression uses techniques which stimulate the movement of lymphatic fluids in the body in order to assist in the cleansing of toxins and waste products, acts as an aid to blood circulation and strengthens the body’s defense mechanism and general immunity against disease. Reflexology, while similar in principal to Shiatsu and Acupressure, focuses on points of the hands and feet believed to correspond to each organ, gland and structure of the body. Practitioners manipulate reflex points to reduce tension, improve blood supply and reestablish harmony among body functions. As in Shiatsu and Jin Shin Do, clients can remain clothed except for shoes and socks. Reiki or Aura and chakra therapy / therapeutic touch and energetic hands on healing include techniques for working with and balancing the electromagnetic energies of the physical and etheric bodies as well as the endocrine glands. Shiatsu is a Japanese hand healing method effective for stress, locomotive and internal disorders. In Oriental Medicine, all disorders are seen as the result of an imbalance of the distribution of life force in the body. The practitioner supports and empathizes with the receiver's inner drive to recover, balances the life force in the meridians and creates a warm understanding through touch and pressure, thus promoting self-healing. The client is fully clothed to receive Shiatsu. Sports Massage is a highly specialized form of massage therapy. It begins with careful study of the movements involved in sports activity. Then the muscle and joint movements are analyzed. Finally, deep tissue strokes, muscle massage, release points, and joint movements are designed to correct harmful movement patterns and prevent tissue damage during exercise. Swedish/Western Massage is an oil massage using five types of manipulation: effleurage (long strokes), petrissage (kneading), friction (deep circular movement), tapotement (percussion), and vibration to promote relaxation, improve circulation, relieve tension, and expand the range of motion. Thai Massage: This massage uses passive stretching and gentle pressure on the body’s energy lines to relieve muscle and joint tension, increase flexibility and balance the body’s energy. It uses gentle compression, acupressure on specific energy lines, warm herbal compresses and rhythmic stretching. This is not recommended for first timers.
Trigger point therapy focuses on the relief of tension by activating or deactivating specific points on the body.A trigger point is a tight and tender spot in a muscle that refers pain (or "triggers" pain) to other areas of the body. Some of the causes of trigger points in muscles are stress, excessive chilling, injury, overuse, and strain. Treatment of trigger points consists of application of sustained pressure in specific areas to inactivate the muscle spasm. Yoga, which originated in India more than 5,000 years ago, is a Hindu system of philosophy that encompasses the body, mind and spirit. Its aim is ultimate physical health and happiness, together with mental peace and tranquillity. |
